Given that we're dating, on date nights, ya da ya da and I'm pairing date nights with cocktails, it seemed a good fit for us to stop in a imbibe a few of 'em. I'd stopped in to Alembic to drink drinks before and always found this place to be the snottiest bar ever known to man. The kind of bar where everyone who works in the joint is a million times cooler than you'll ever be, the staff rocks ironic mullets, and tattoos seem a prerequisite to working there. I almost couldn't handle it.
The chef and I stopped in for what I initially thought would be a short visit and turned into a 2 drink minimum situation.
I ordered the Blood and Sand, which I recommend. The chef ordered nothing but Sazeracs, which I don't' typically like at all, and I admit it tasted the way I think they should. Cold and yummy. Then I ordered my favorite drink - THE ELDERFLOWER GIMLET - and promptly fell off my bar stool in complete surprise at how wonderful this drink tasted.
I almost said to my mixologist that he should add a bit of lime juice, mostly due to the fact that every other bar I've ordered these in forget that part. I worried aloud that it wouldn't taste limey enough.
That said, best elderflower gimlet in town. No-freakin-joke.
It's the best.
Though, I'm remiss to say that even with the drinks being quite possibly some of the best in the city and it's not more than a block from my front door - I can't bring myself to go there very often.
I'm just not that cool - and I'm pretty darn cool, yo.
By the way, in case you didn't know snakes are mortally afraid of tile.
