This year I want to make the same jams as last year, with a bit of variation. Rather than making plain strawberry jam, maybe a batch of strawberry-basil jam. You know jazz up the jam, so to speak.
I do know that I need to make far more Apricot jam this year than last. It's my understanding that we all ran out in mid-November 2008 and that just won't do again. My grandmother and father-in-law just won't stand for such poor planning again.
Rhubarb needs tending to. Finding it whole and freezing it off. Planning for the late summer, early fall apples that will come my way. Zip-lock bags must be purchased, sharpies readied.
This hobbyis serious stuff. Planning the weekends in late April, early May for the Strawberry jam session. A weekend in early June for the blackberries, ollalieberries, and the like. Ensuring that there is time in June and again in July for the stone fruits - Apricots, Peaches, some Plums. Knowing that required time in August and September for tomatoes, tomatillos and their ilk must be set aside.
Jars, lids, rings - ladles, funnels, sugars - prosecco, mixers - all of it must be readied for the scheduled weekends.
Kick out the jams,
